Joseph Smith is originally from Blountsville, Alabama.
He
grew
up
in
an
old-fashioned
Baptist
Church
and
attended
Southern
Gospel
concerts
with
his
parents.
As a
child,
his
favorite
group
was
the
Kingsmen
(at
that
time
with
Gary
Shepard).
Joseph
was
able
to
sing
with
Gary
while
with
Perfect
Heart.
Prior
to
going
with
Perfect
Heart,
Joseph
sang
for
five
years
with
a
local
north
Alabama
group
named
Brethren.
Joseph
studied
music
at
the
University
of
Montevallo
in
south
central
Alabama,
and
earned
a
Master's
of
Music
in
Voice
and
Piano
Performance
from
the
University
of
Alabama
in
Birmingham.
The
ability
he
has
on
the
piano
has
brought
flexibility
to
the
Booth
Brothers
to
wander
away
from
the
sound
tracks
and
to
sing
with
just
the
piano,
letting
their
close
harmony
flow.
When
Joseph
joined
the
Booth
Brothers,
it
was
important
for
Ronnie
and
Michael
to
keep
the
Booth
Brother
"sound,"
a
very
distinctive
harmonious
blend.
Joseph
has
a
strong
baritone
voice,
and
is
fully
capable
of
carrying
his
featured
parts,
yet
he
blends
so
well.
Joseph
left
the
Booth
Brothers
in
2001
